The Department of Agricultural Economics was established in 1996. The Master's program commenced in 1999, the undergraduate program in 2002, and the Ph.D. program in 2005. The department consists of two main divisions: Agricultural Management and Agricultural Policy and Extension. As of 2023, the department has 5 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, and 2 Research Assistants. It currently offers undergraduate, graduate, and non-thesis distance Master's degree programs.
The Department of Agricultural Economics is an academic discipline that seeks solutions to agricultural problems by applying the fundamental principles of economics. Accordingly, in addition to providing students with a solid foundation in agricultural production (including crop production, horticulture, livestock production, and related fields), the department equips them with the knowledge and competencies required to make informed decisions at both the micro level (agricultural farms and agribusiness firms) and the macro level (national agricultural economics and policy). To achieve this objective, the department offers courses and conducts research in a broad range of fields, including agricultural production economics, farm management and planning, project development, agricultural finance, agricultural marketing, agricultural accounting, cooperatives, real estate valuation, entrepreneurship, agricultural policy, rural development, rural sociology, agri-environmental economics, international trade, agricultural law, the European Union Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and agricultural extension.

To provide high-quality and contemporary education in agricultural economics in order to educate Agricultural Engineers specialized in Agricultural Economics who meet the demands of the modern era and professional life; to conduct high-quality research addressing regional and national challenges; to organize scientific activities; and to contribute to the advancement of universal scientific knowledge.

To educate entrepreneurial, innovative, and socially responsible individuals who effectively utilize modern scientific methods, respect universal values, and develop innovative solutions to challenges in agricultural economics; and to become a highly recognized department that produces nationally and internationally respected academic outputs.
